This weekend we had the privilege of having a fifth child for 24 hours. My oldest son invited his friend David over to play games, spend the night, and attend church with us on Sunday. Somehow included in their plans was an omelet cook off. This started Sunday afternoon while my wife and I were upstairs talking. She knew it was going on, which is why she came upstairs. She’s a neat freak and I don’t think she wanted to witness the destruction of her kitchen. While we were talking I started smelling things like onions, sausage, and smoke. So when she told me they were having a battle I said we’ve got to monitor this. What we witnessed was scary, exciting and fun. Egg shells were everywhere. Milk, butter, flour, paprika, salt, pepper, and EVOO was all over the kitchen including the floor. A total of six pots and pans had been used between the two boys, but surely they could have reused one at some point. The good thing is the house aired out in a couple of hours and both competitors’ concoctions were delicious. Both boys did so well that the judges deemed it a tie. Of course, one thing they both did exceptionally well was leave a major mess.
